Universal Converter (PR 9116A / PR 9116B)

The hazardous-area version of the universal transmitter: the PR 9116 accepts RTD, thermocouple, resistance, potentiometer, mA and voltage signals from Zone 0 to Zone 2, supplies 2-wire transmitters, and delivers an isolated active or passive mA output plus a relay. 19.2–31.2 VDC, DIN rail or PR 9400 power rail, stackable without spacing.
Universal Converter (PR 9116A / PR 9116B)
The PR 9116 combines an intrinsically safe input barrier, a universal signal converter and a transmitter power supply in one module. On the field side it accepts RTDs, thermocouples, resistance and potentiometer inputs directly from sensors in the hazardous area, or a mA or voltage signal from a transmitter, for which it supplies the loop power. On the safe side it delivers a scaled, linearised and galvanically isolated mA output, active or passive to suit the receiver, and a relay for alarm or trip functions.
The module is powered from 19.2 to 31.2 VDC via DIN-rail terminals or the PR 9400 power rail and mounts vertically or horizontally with no spacing between units. Configuration and readout use the detachable PR 4500-series display; the PR 5910Ex CJC connector provides cold-junction compensation for thermocouple inputs. The PR 9116A and PR 9116B differ in approval and output details. Protection is IP20 for cabinet installation.
Applications are signal conversion, scaling, galvanic isolation, temperature measurement, alarm control and 2-wire transmitter supply for hazardous-area loops in oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical, power, marine and industrial automation. For safe-area loops the PR 4116 universal transmitter offers the same functions with a universal AC/DC supply.
