Repeater / Power Supply (PR 5104A)

Every 4–20 mA loop needs a power supply, and most benefit from isolation. The PR 5104A does both: it supplies the loop current for a 2-wire transmitter, isolates that loop galvanically from the control system input, and re-transmits the signal as current or voltage. Ground loops, common-mode noise and a fault on one loop stay on the field side; the PLC or DCS sees a clean, isolated signal.

The module is available in one- or two-channel versions, halving the rail space per loop. Inputs and outputs are analogue current or voltage signals with programmable measuring ranges, so the unit also serves as a signal converter, for example 0–10 V to 4–20 mA, or as a splitter feeding one transmitter to two receivers. The power supply is universal AC or DC. Configuration is via the loop link communication interface and programming cable, and the module mounts on a DIN rail, rated IP20.

Applications are power supply and galvanic isolation for 2-wire transmitters, signal isolation and current-to-voltage or voltage-to-current conversion in oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical, power, marine and general process industries, in marshalling cabinets and system cabinets alike.
