Signal Conditioner

Between a sensor in the field and an input card in the control system there is usually a signal conditioner: something that powers the loop, isolates it, converts the signal to the form the receiver needs, linearises a temperature sensor, watches a limit, or provides the intrinsically safe barrier that lets the loop enter a hazardous area. These modules are small, numerous and easy to overlook, and they decide whether the plant's measurements arrive clean.

The signal conditioner category is built on the PR electronics range, chosen for its universal inputs and supplies, its detachable front display that configures and reads any module without a PC, and its consistent approvals. For the safe area, the PR 4116 universal transmitter converts any temperature or analogue signal with two relays, the PR 4179B trip amplifier monitors AC current and voltage directly, and the PR 5104A repeater power supply powers and isolates 2-wire transmitter loops. For hazardous areas, the PR 9116 universal converter brings sensor and transmitter signals out through an intrinsically safe input, the PR 9202 switch amplifier does the same for NAMUR and mechanical switches, the PR 9107 HART-transparent driver sends control signals out to positioners and I/P converters, and the PR 9203 driver powers solenoids and alarms, all mountable on the PR 9400 power rail without individual supply wiring. The PR 4511 communication enabler adds Modbus RTU, local display and diagnostics to any of them.
