A pressure sensor is the simplest way to turn process pressure into a standard electrical signal. Unlike a full process transmitter it has no local configuration or turndown: the range is fixed or set in the factory, and the sensor delivers 4–20 mA (2-wire) or 0–5 V / 0–10 V directly to a PLC, controller or data logger. That simplicity is exactly what makes it attractive where many measuring points are needed or where space and budget are tight.

Two sensing technologies cover the full span. Piezoresistive cells handle the low and medium ranges from 50 mbar upwards, while thin-film cells on a stainless steel membrane cover high pressures up to 6,000 bar (87,000 psi) with excellent long-term stability. Standard accuracy is ±0.5 % of span, with ≤ ±0.25 % available as an option.

Process connections include threaded, flush-diaphragm, hygienic and flanged versions. Flush diaphragms are the right choice for viscous, particle-laden, adhesive or crystallising media that would block a conventional pressure port. Wetted parts are 316, 316L or 316Ti stainless steel, or PH-grade steel for the highest ranges, and the sensors operate from −40 to +200 °C with cooling elements available for hotter processes.

Options include welding sockets, hygienic adapters, field cases, protective caps and hazardous-area approvals, which is why these sensors are found across machine building, energy, chemical, food and beverage and marine applications as well as in R&D and test rigs.
