Solenoid / Alarm Driver (PR 9203A / PR 9203B)

Solenoid / Alarm Driver (PR 9203A / PR 9203B)
Overview

The output module for hazardous-area solenoids and alarms: driven by a PNP or NPN signal or a mechanical switch from the control system, the PR 9203 delivers an intrinsically safe output to a solenoid valve, an acoustic alarm or an LED in Zone 1 or Zone 2, and reports its state through a status relay. 19.2–31.2 VDC, DIN rail or PR 9400 power rail, stackable without spacing.

Mountingvertical or horizontal DIN-rail mounting with no spacing required between adjacent units
InputPNP or NPN signals and mechanical switches
Outputintrinsically safe output for solenoids, acoustic alarms, or LEDs, with a status relay

Details

Solenoid valves, horns and indicator lamps in the hazardous area need an intrinsically safe supply just as sensors do, and they need one that can deliver enough power to operate the device reliably. The PR 9203 is the driver for these loads. A digital output from the PLC or DCS, PNP or NPN, or a mechanical switch or push-button, controls the module; the module switches an intrinsically safe output to the solenoid, acoustic alarm or LED, and a status relay confirms the output state or reports a fault back to the control system.

The PR 9203A and PR 9203B differ in approval and output characteristics; both are powered from 19.2 to 31.2 VDC through DIN-rail terminals or the PR 9400 power rail, and both mount vertically or horizontally with no spacing between adjacent modules, so a cabinet row can be packed densely. The detachable PR 4500-series display gives local status and configuration. Protection is IP20.

Applications are control of solenoids, acoustic alarms and LEDs installed in safe or hazardous areas in oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical, mining, marine and industrial automation, typically for shutdown valves, purge and vent valves, and local warning devices on skids and wellheads.
