Overview

Programmable transmitters that convert any RTD, thermocouple, millivolt or resistance input into 4–20 mA HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus or PROFIBUS PA. DIN head, remote or field-mounted in aluminium or stainless steel, with dual-sensor hot backup, Callendar–Van Dusen linearisation and self-diagnostics.

Details

A temperature transmitter turns the small, non-linear signal of an RTD or thermocouple into a robust, scaled and linearised signal the control system can use, and does so close to the sensor, where the lead wires are short and the measurement is least disturbed. Universal inputs accept RTDs in 2-, 3- or 4-wire, thermocouples of all standard types, millivolts and ohms, in single- or dual-sensor configurations, so one transmitter type covers the whole plant.

Mounting options are DIN B head-mounted inside the sensor connection head, remote-mounted on a bracket or rail, or integral in a field housing of aluminium or stainless steel with an LCD display and local operator interface. Outputs are 4–20 mA with HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus or PROFIBUS PA, depending on model. Dual-sensor versions offer hot backup, in which the transmitter switches to the second sensor if the first fails, and sensor drift alarms; Callendar–Van Dusen coefficients from the sensor's calibration certificate can be entered to reach the best possible accuracy for a matched pair.

Self-diagnostics report sensor break, short circuit and electronics faults, and certified models are available for use in safety instrumented functions. Transient protection, mounting brackets and cable glands are accessories. Accuracy depends on model, sensor and configured span; refer to the datasheet.
