Details

The compact temperature switch is the process-plant version of the mechanical temperature trip: the same vapour-pressure principle as the mini switch, in a field enclosure built for weather, corrosion and hazardous-area installation. A bulb filled with a temperature-sensitive liquid drives a diaphragm through a capillary, and the diaphragm operates the microswitch at the adjustable set point, independently of any power supply.

Multiple ranges cover −30 to +250 °C with repeatability better than 1 % of span. Contacts are SPDT or DPDT microswitches rated up to 15 A at 250 VAC, enough to drive contactors and solenoid valves directly. The 316 stainless steel bulb mounts through a ½" or ¾" thread, in a thermowell, or on a capillary up to 10 m, and the enclosure is aluminium or 316L for offshore and chemical environments, with hazardous-area versions for Zone 1 and Zone 2 installation. Pressure capability follows the thermowell and process connection.

Accessories are capillary, compression fittings, a terminal box, mounting brackets, and helical or surface bulbs.

Typical duties are high-temperature alarms and shutdowns on pumps, compressors, gearboxes, heaters and reactors in chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas, power, mining and glass plants. For measuring ranges above 250 °C or tighter repeatability, specify the gas-actuated temperature switch.
