Capacitance Level Switch

Capacitance Level Switch

A capacitance level switch is a type of level sensing device that detects the presence or absence of liquids, granular materials, or powders in a tank or silo. It operates on the principle of capacitance, which is the ability of a substance to store an electrical charge. The capacitance level switch consists of two electrodes, one active and one reference, which are mounted on the outside of the tank or silo. When there is no material in the tank, the electrical field between the two electrodes is at its maximum capacitance. When the tank is filled with a material, the material forms a dielectric medium between the electrodes, reducing the electrical capacitance between them. This change in capacitance is detected by the switch, which triggers an alarm or activates a control system to perform a specific action, such as stopping the filling process or initiating a discharge. Capacitance level switches are commonly used in a variety of industries, including chemical processing, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and water and wastewater treatment, to provide reliable and accurate level control and monitoring.
